Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When can a person start running a horse for Futurities?
A: Most futurities are for horses aged 5 year olds and younger.
As a owner -evaluate the horse and decide if he is mentally
ready for the four year old futurities or if to wait for the
5 year old futurities. It is a good idea to have a futurity
    trainer evaluate your horse.

Q: When is the best time to start hauling and entering events?
A: First the best time to start exhibitioning at events would be
the year before the futurity year -three and four year old
age. The best would be to ask the trainers to see what
    works for them.

B: Every futurity has specifications for entering.
Belle Fourche Futurity is for horses that have not competed
in any barrel races before the event. Other Futurities allow
competition runs after Dec 1 2009 for competition 2010.
Read all the rules and look at the entry forms (due dates
and costs) of the futurities you want to enter.

Q: How does it work to sell a horse after the Futurity year?
A: That question needs to be answered by the people that
make a living with futurity horses.
    Trainers: like to answer this!

Q: What is breeder eligible?
A: The Breeder futurities has helped to promote and create
large added purses. Supporting the breeding programs is
important and helps the horse industry. To be eligible you
would need to contact the stallion owners for their
stallion eligibilites or view the futuritie's websites
